The LeBron Effect: StubHub’s Traffic to Lakers Page Jumps 19x Over the Average

It has been less than 24 hours since the announcement that LeBron James will be playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and StubHub is already seeing the effects it will have on ticket demand. On Sunday, July 1st, the day of LeBron’s announcement, StubHub saw visits to its Los Angeles Lakers tickets page increase by 1,831% compared to the last 30-day average. Compared to the same date last year (July 1st), traffic increased to the page by 7,398%.

“Only a handful of athletes in the world can have an effect on ticket demand like LeBron James can,” said StubHub GM of NFL, NBA & NHL Scott Jablonski. “It’s still early but trends are already showing that this upcoming Lakers season with James is going to be one of the hottest sports tickets on StubHub.”

While the NBA regular season schedule has yet to be fully announced, StubHub does have listings up for preseason games and the Lakers regular season home opener. It’s important to note that StubHub is a marketplace and prices reflect supply and demand. With little inventory and high demand for the Lakers home opener, prices may be inflated until more supply makes its way to the market. After the NBA regular season schedule is confirmed, we expect the market to level out. Until then, here’s a look at how Lakers tickets are trending so far:
