StubHub becomes official ticket sales channel for the Davis Cup by Rakuten Madrid Finals

The platform will act as an official ticket sales channel as well as an official and exclusive fan marketplace

StubHub will apply Cancel and Reissue technology to improve the purchasing experience

Madrid, 19 June, 2019– Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals and StubHub today announced their collaboration whereby StubHub becomes an official ticketing partner and an exclusive official sales platform, as well as an official distributor of VIP and groups tickets for the Davis Cup Finals to be held from 18 to 24 November at the Caja Mágica of Madrid.

The agreement announced today has a twofold objective: as an additional primary sales channel and to increase the international reach of this sporting event, which will be a showpiece of 18 different nationalities on the courts. As the competition’s official and exclusive marketplace, users will be able to buy and sell their tickets in their local currency and language, rely on completely secure transactions and enjoy uniformed experience throughout the world.

In its fight to continue eradicating ticket fraud as well as to improve the purchasing experience, StubHub will turn to the technology known as Cancel and Reissue, which generates a new unique code for each ticket that is resold. Rafa Ortiz, Business Development Director at StubHub International: “We are proud to launch such cutting-edge technology in the Spanish market that will allow us to manage all sales between fans in a more efficient and secure way. As a result, all tickets will be available for instant download, significantly improving the shopping experience”.

The Davis Cup by Rakuten Madrid Finals is expected to be attended by fans from around the world, many of whom will decide at the last minute whether to purchase tickets, depending on who qualifies for each match. Javier Alonso, CEO of Kosmos Tennis – the company in charge of the organization of the Davis Cup by Rakuten Madrid Finals -, says: “For this reason, it seems essential to us the collaboration of StubHub in the ticket sales for this competition. In a tournament in which it is impossible to know until the last moment who the finalists will be, a totally reliable, official and safe service is needed where whoever has bought their tickets blindly and is no longer interested in attending can get rid of them and recover the cost. In this way, even those fans who don’t dare buy their tickets until the last minute will be able to get them right up to the start of the matches”.

Cancel and Reissue Technology

This high-level technology consists of ’re-emitting’ an entry each time it is resold, by changing its identification barcode. All tickets are issued with a specific locator for each attendee at the time of purchase. Reissues allow you to change the locator, creating a completely new one and deleting the old one if the original buyer can no longer use that entry. This avoids possible duplications since the ticket sold in the first instance is invalidated and replaced by a new one. One of the main advantages for the user is that, with this technology, the ticket is available for instant download.
